Auto Insurance Coverage

Liability

The most important protection a driver can have. If you are found legally responsible for damages resulting from an accident, this coverage may pay up to the limit you select.

Choose your limits wisely, as you will be personally responsible to cover any costs above the limit. If more coverage is needed to protect your personal assets, consider an umbrella policy.

Covered expenses for anyone injured in an accident — including passengers in your car, passengers in another car and pedestrians can include:
  • Hospital and medical bills
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Rehabilitation services
  • In-home health care services
  • Legal fees
  • Bail bonds
  • Court costs
Bodily Injury

It covers the costs associated with the covered injuries you may have caused to other people in that accident and also provides for a legal defense if you're sued. Bodily injury liability covers injury to people, up to the policy limits.
Property Damage

If you're in an accident in which you're at fault, your property damage liability pays for the covered damage you've caused to the other car and provides you with legal defense if the other party files a lawsuit against you. You should have enough property liability insurance to cover the amount of damage your car might do to another vehicle or an object such as a building or piece of equipment.
Comprehensive

If your car is stolen or damaged by something other than a collision, comprehensive coverage can help pay for covered losses, such as:
  • Theft
  • Fire
  • Vandalism
  • Severe weather events (Windstorm, Hail, Flood)
  • Animal impact

The maximum comprehensive coverage payout is the actual cash value of your vehicle minus the deductible amount you choose.

Comprehensive coverage limits and deductibles may vary by state and is generally required if you have a loan or lease on your vehicle. Otherwise, coverage and limits are optional.
Collision

If you hit another car or object, get hit by another car or object, or your car rolls over, collision coverage will help cover damage to your vehicle, up to the policy limit.

The maximum collision coverage payout is the actual cash value of your vehicle, minus the deductible amount you choose. Be sure to choose a deductible with an out-of-pocket expense you can afford.

You must have comprehensive coverage to purchase this protection. Collision coverage limits and deductibles may vary by state and is generally required if you have a loan or lease on your vehicle. Otherwise, coverage and limits are optional.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

It's scary to realize that some drivers on the road either have no insurance or don’t have sufficient coverage. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can offer protection if you're in an accident with one of those drivers.

As long as you've chosen sufficient limits on the policy, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can cover your medical bills and bodily injury resulting from an accident with someone who does not have sufficient insurance.

Coverage extends to you, your family and your passengers. As a pedestrian, if you are hit by an uninsured driver, you can be covered.

The requirement for uninsured motorist coverage varies by state. In most states, it applies only to bodily injury coverage, but where available, you can usually add uninsured/underinsured motorist property damage coverage to your policy as well.
Medical Payments

Covers the medical expenses you or any of your passengers may need to diagnose and treat injuries resulting from an accident involving your vehicle, up to the policy limits. It doesn’t matter whether the accident was your fault or not. You are also covered if another vehicle hits you as a pedestrian. Coverages vary by state.
Rental

Will pay for a rental car if your car is damaged in a covered accident and your car is out of commission for more than 24 hours. Coverage applies to vehicles for which you’ve bought extended transportation expenses that are involved in a covered comprehensive or collision loss.
Roadside Assistance

Over the course of a driving lifetime, chances are good that someday your car will get a flat tire, run out of gas or have a mechanical problem. And there you'll be — stranded on the side of the road. But with Roadside Assistance service, you can have peace of mind knowing that help is just a phone call away. This coverage provides and pays for covered towing and labor costs if your vehicle breaks down.
Loan/Lease Gap

This coverage protects you if your vehicle is financed or leased. If your vehicle is totaled, this coverage may pay the difference between the actual cash value of the vehicle and the unpaid balance of the loan or lease.
New Car Replacement

This covers the cost of a new car of the same make and model, minus the applicable deductibles if your car is totaled in a covered loss. Fire, theft, larceny and flood losses are excluded.
Glass Deductible

This is a lower deductible that can be applied in place of your comprehensive deductible for a glass-only loss involving your windshield, windows, and exterior lights or mirrors.
Deductibles and Limits

our car insurance deductible is the amount you'll pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in. The lower the deductible, the less you'll pay out of pocket if an accident occurs. Selecting a higher deductible may lower your auto insurance premium.

Your car insurance coverage limits also referred to as limit of liability, are the most your insurance will pay if you have a claim. Choosing a higher coverage amount provides you additional protection if an accident occurs.

The available coverage limits may vary by coverage type and state. It is important to choose limits that meet your needs.
